FINAL REPORT
The National Assembly on Workplace Democracy Final Report speaks directly to what can be done to legislate, regulate, or otherwise effect protections for workers and enable stronger worker voice in Canada.
Some of their recommendations urge unions and employers to take action, while others focus specifically on the most vulnerable and marginalized Canadians in the workforce, outlining the conditions that need to be improved in order for workers to fully express their voice. There are also recommendations relating to mitigating concerns about technological change and artificial intelligence in the workplace, and better educating Canadians about their rights and opportunities at work.
Underpinning the Assembly’s recommendations are a set of eight values the Assembly members believe should guide the work of researchers and policymakers towards strengthening the conditions for worker voice in Canada. The Assembly members also articulate a set of seven changes & challenges affecting Canadian workers that they believe researchers and policymakers must keep in mind when shaping meaningful and impactful policy change.
